Fixed-price engagement — on quote
MariaDB audit, co-reviewed by Signal18
A complete MariaDB audit of your cluster, performed by the RDEM Systems DBA team and co-reviewed by Signal18, publisher of Replication Manager and founded by MySQL and MariaDB veterans.
Who is this audit for?
You run a MariaDB (or MySQL) database in production and you wonder whether it would actually hold up under a traffic spike, a node failure, or an emergency restore.
You inherited an existing architecture, the original DBA has left, and you want an independent baseline before making structural decisions (migration, redesign, managed services, compliance).
You are about to migrate to a managed MariaDB and you want to quantify the technical debt before switching.
Audit scope
Six areas covered systematically, adapted to your topology (single instance, replication, Galera).
Performance & query plan
Slow query log analysis, EXPLAIN review on top queries, index usage, buffer pool sizing, InnoDB tuning.
Schema & data model
Indexing strategy, normalization, data types, foreign keys, partitioning opportunities, hot tables.
Replication & high availability
Replication topology, GTID consistency, replication lag, failover readiness, semi-sync setup, Galera quorum review.
Security & access
User and privilege audit, network exposure, TLS/SSL configuration, audit plugin, password hashing.
Backup & disaster recovery
Backup strategy (logical vs binary), retention, off-site copies, restore test, real RPO/RTO measurement.
Monitoring & operations
Existing dashboards, alerting gaps, log retention, key metrics (lag, threads, slow queries, deadlocks).
What you receive
An actionable report, not a generic checklist.
- Written audit report (PDF) with executive summary
- Prioritized findings: blockers, high, medium, low
- Concrete remediation plan with effort estimates
- Slow query hotlist with proposed indexes or rewrites
- Replication & backup risk matrix
- Restore drill report (when applicable)
- Restitution call (1h) with your team
How it works
One-shot audit, delivered in 2 weeks on average — without write access to your database.
Scoping call
30-minute call to understand your environment, pain points, and define the audit scope.
Read-only access
Read-only DBA account, slow query log, configuration files, sample backups. No write access required.
Analysis (3–5 days)
RDEM DBA team performs the audit. Critical findings on replication or HA are co-reviewed with Signal18.
Report & restitution
Written report delivered, then a 1-hour restitution call to walk through findings and remediation plan.
Why Signal18 co-validation matters
On MariaDB replication, failover and high availability, few firms have the track record of the Signal18 team. Stéphane Varoqui and Guillaume Lefranc are former MySQL then MariaDB engineers, with 20+ years of expertise on these engines.
In practice, on the critical findings of the audit — replication topology, failover behavior, GTID consistency, Galera quorum — the Signal18 team reviews our conclusions before restitution. You therefore get two levels of expertise in the final report: operational (RDEM) and vendor (Signal18).
This is a level of validation you won't get from a hyperscaler or from a generalist consulting firm.
Pricing
RDEM DBA audit day
Analysis, EXPLAIN, configuration review, report writing. Most audits fit in 3 to 5 days depending on topology and data volume.
Signal18 co-validation
Co-review by the Signal18 team on critical topics: replication, failover, GTID consistency, Galera quorum. Fixed fee, optional.
The audit is a fixed-price engagement on quote. Price depends on topology (single instance, replication, multi-DC Galera), data volume, and number of databases in scope.
The initial 15-min scoping call is free to estimate the number of days needed. Signal18 co-validation is optional — strongly recommended on Galera clusters and replicated production architectures.
The audit cost is deductible from setup fees if you then switch to our managed MariaDB offer.
One-shot audit, not recurring managed services
This engagement is a one-shot: a baseline, a report, a restitution. If you need recurring managed MariaDB (24/7, support, operations), see our managed MariaDB offer. For generic server management (outside the database), see RDEM Managed Services.
